Cherry Bombin' Wear Leg Strap
Cherry Bombin’ wear was just an idea in high school; a dream to start a funky type of clothing line. I moved to Arizona from NY, for college at ASU & 3 years post receiving my bachelors degree, all the signs were pointing me to start that very idea. In 2007 Cherry Bombin’ wear became a reality.
I’m a cyclist & bicycle tubes started taking up a lot of space in the garage. They were flats that I would eventually patch up for reuse. The tubes were accumulating… then I had an idea. I would cut the rubber instead & use it to make soft goods; wallets, wrist cuffs, purses, messenger bags! It’s environmentally sustainable, an up-cycled material being used without the environment impact of cattle farming leather, which is also vegetarian/vegan. Could there be a textile more perfect? This was it & all of it wonderfully defined my lifestyle & me.
In 2005 I started cutting rubber & hand sewing wallets in my apartment & selling them at art events in Tempe Arizona. The response to my product was overwhelming, which inspired me even further. I joined a local artist cooperative boutique & in 2007 opened my own place. Cherry Bombin’ wear’s first production workspace & store was located off Roosevelt Row, in the heart of downtown’s Phoenix Arts district & by 2008 had multiple grassroots wholesale accounts, including 2 large corporate accounts: Whole Foods Market as their local lifestyle ‘green artist.’ & Good Vibrations Ecorotic®
After moving a few times, Cherry Bombin’ wear Stitchery still remains downtown, now in the La Melgosa Annex at the south end of the Grand Avenue Arts district, next to Eleventh Monk3y Apparel & Deiselandia. The stitchery looks like a set out of a Japanese cartoon candy store with a floating crystal mountain wall separating the workshop from office, with striped & polka dot walls amidst the sewing stations.
Although there are no set hours of operation at the stitchery, visitors are welcome to drop by while in the neighborhood or make an appointment to visit. Bicycle tube recycling is always welcome, as arriving to pile of tubes at the door is a pleasant surprise.
Cherry Bombin’ wear promotes & encourages: riding bikes, recycling, vegetarian/veganism, feminism, equal rights, street art, individuality, revolution, evolution & Love!
