CONSENT
CONSENSUAL SEX
Hey heyyyy lovers.... Today I am going to chime in to discuss consent. This topic can be long & broad, as it should be... right?! But today I'm just going to touch on it like a 'flickering light.'
Consent. I want to know why it has taken this many years for the word & action to have real visibility? Hmmmmm.... (as I think to myself) ... is it because the basic forming of the sexual revolution & evolution of sex in general is a 'newer' thing? I mean... personally my mother never even taught me about sex or sexuality, never-mind "CONSENT." (I am 41 years old as reference here)
This topic brings up a lot for me. It makes me sad thinking back to what my concept of sex & sexuality even was while growing up.... I was oblivious to any of it BUT knew all about it at the same time.
Sex & sexuality was like a dark shadow in my life. I was the girl who wanted to be excepted by the boys & would 'suck dick' to achieve false friendships. I remember being coerced into a few situations but didn't really care. I also remember being coerced & fighting back... (by my older brothers friend actually) -- a person he is still friends with today even after I told him. Sound familiar?
I wasn't in touch with my sex or sexuality until I was closer to 17/18 years old...besides those 'sucking dick' moments around 16. I did have a couple girlfriends who were sluts, of which who I lived vicariously though. One thing I remember telling myself at 16 was that, "losing my virginity would either be to someone I was in love with or it would be a really great story" ... worth writing home. Well I never fell in love, until after the story worth writing home. It's a pretty good one... (saved for another day!)
Anyhow... without getting off topic too much here, Consent is one of the reasons why it has taken me this long to embrace my craft. I thought that taking my business to the next level meant 'selling out' to retailers & distributors who would sell my products to persons who would potentially use them irresponsibly. The fact of the matter is that I have no control over whose hands my products go in & what is done, regardless of the seller.
On the other hand, I DO have control over where I spend my money & who/what I support. This is why I choose to donate 4% back annually & contribute the majority of my business locally, especially with womxn owned businesses.
We all have a choice in this world. We can either sit back & watch or step-up & contribute! We are evolving at a rapid pace.
